Section 1. Physical Therapist Education Approved by the Board. The Board shall license only those applicants who are graduates of schools of physical therapy accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.
Section 2. Physical Therapist Assistant Education Approved by the Board. The Board shall register only those applicants who are graduates of schools of physical therapist assistants accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.
Section 3. Foreign-Trained Physical Therapists. Foreign-trained physical therapists shall be graduates of physical therapy institutions of learning which are approved by the accrediting agency in the country in which they received their training subject to the approval of the Board following review of the applicant's credentials. The coursework and clinical preparation should be substantially equivalent to coursework and clinical preparation completed by graduates of accredited programs in the United States.
(a) Foreign-trained physical therapist applicants shall satisfactorily complete a period of service not to exceed one (1) year under the direct supervision of a Wyoming licensed physical therapist in a physical therapy setting or an institution, which has been approved by the Board. The Board may waive all or any portion of the required period of service based on a favorable written report provided by the applicant's direct supervisor or if the supervisory requirement has been met in another state.
(b) Passing scores as listed here on all three of the following examinations are required for licensure of candidates who have not graduated from a U.S. program accredited by CAPTE: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), 560; Test of Written English (TWE), 4.5; Test of Spoken English (TSE), 50;
(c) Individuals who meet both of the following conditions may be exempt from the requirement for language proficiency testing: 1) the native language of the country of origin is English; and 2) graduation from a PT program which was conducted in English.
(d) The scope of practice requirements for foreign-trained physical therapists are identical to those found in Section 1(a) of Chapter 6 except that a supervising physical therapist shall be accessible by telecommunications to the temporary physical therapist at all times while treating patients.
