Commercial Driver Instruction Permit

PURPOSE: This rule establishes requirements for a commercial driver to obtain a commercial driver instruction permit.
- (1) Before applying for a commercial driver instruction permit, the person shall possess a valid drivers license issued in this or any other state.
- (2) Any applicant for a commercial driver instruction permit shall meet all requirements of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act (sections 302.700–302.780, RSMo), except for the pretrip inspection, off-road basic controls and on-road driving tests.
- (3) The person shall present evidence that the appropriate commercial motor vehicle written tests were completed for the class and type of vehicle to be operated on the commercial driver instruction permit.
- (4) The director shall issue a commercial driver instruction permit in the correct class and with appropriate endorsements upon the payment of five dollars ($5). A permit holder, unless otherwise disqualified, may be granted one (1) six (6)-month extension/renewal of an unexpired instruction permit upon the payment of an additional five dollar ($5) fee. person shall be accompanied by the holder of a commercial drivers license valid for the class of vehicle being operated and who occupies a seat beside the individual, or reasonably near the individual, in the case of buses, for the purpose of giving instruction in driving the commercial motor vehicle.
