Subd. 1. Renewal requirements.

To renew a license, an applicant must:

1. (1) complete a renewal application every two years on a form provided by the commissioner and submit the biennial renewal fee by the deadline; and
2. (2) submit additional information if requested by the commissioner to clarify information presented in the renewal application. This information must be submitted within 30 days of the commissioner's request.

Subd. 2. Continuing education.

At the time of renewal, if required, each licensee shall furnish evidence satisfactory to the commissioner that the licensee has completed at least the equivalent of 40 clock hours of continuing professional education during the past two years, in programs which meet the requirements in the rules authorized by this chapter. The commissioner shall seek advice from the advisory council and the committees established by the rules in determining whether a continuing education program meets the requirements.

Subd. 3. Late renewals.

The deadline to renew licensure is the date set by the commissioner. An application submitted after that date but before the renewal deadline shall be a late renewal and must be accompanied by a late fee as required in section 148C.0351, subdivision 2.

Subd. 4. Lapse in licensure.

An applicant's license shall lapse if the renewal application is not received by the date set by the commissioner. An applicant whose license has lapsed less than two years must meet all the requirements of this chapter except the examination requirements of section 148C.04. An applicant whose license has lapsed for two years or more must meet all the requirements of this chapter except the continuing education requirement of subdivision 2. License renewal fees of applicants whose license has lapsed shall not be prorated over the time remaining in the annual licensure period.
