Section 1. Authority. These regulations are promulgated as authorized by the Act.
Section 2. Purpose. Whereas, the practice of the profession of pharmacy is directly related to the public health and welfare of the citizens of this State, these regulations establish minimum requirements for continuing pharmaceutical education which is necessary for a pharmacist to maintain professional competency and improve professional skills.
(a) 'Approved programs' means all educational programs accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education for purposes of continuing pharmaceutical education credit.
(b) 'Approved providers' means sponsors of continuing education programs approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
(c) 'Contact hour' means classroom or actual lecture time.
(d) 'Continuing Education Unit' (CEU) means one (1) continuing education unit shall be equivalent to ten (10) contact hours of continuing pharmaceutical education.
(e) 'Continuing pharmaceutical education records' means those certificates issued by approved providers upon completion of approved programs.
Section 4. Continuing Pharmaceutical Education Requirement. Every pharmacist licensed in the State shall complete, during each calendar year, a minimum 0.6 CEU of approved programs. CEU completed in excess of the required minimum number earned in one calendar year may be applied to the next calendar year.
Section 5. Annual Report. Every pharmacist applying for renewal pursuant to W.S. 33-24-121 (d), shall submit copies of certificates of completed continuing pharmaceutical education records along with renewal fee, change of address and other necessary information. All copies of records shall include titles of programs, the provider name, identification number of course and CEU received. A pharmacist shall not be required to comply with this continuing pharmaceutical education requirement for the year during which licensure was received.
Section 6. Failure to Comply Active Status. Any pharmacist actively practicing in this State failing to comply with the provisions of Section 4 and 5 of this
Chapter shall not have their license to practice pharmacy renewed. However, any pharmacist may be reinstated under the provisions of the Act upon completion of these requirements.
Section 7. Inactive_Status. A pharmacist licensed in the State may upon application to the Board be granted a waiver of compliance with the continuing pharmaceutical education requirements. However, that pharmacist shall not be allowed to practice the profession in this State, until all requirements and conditions of continuing education are met. A pharmacist who is on inactive status may be reinstated upon completing the continuing pharmaceutical education requirements for each year of inactive status, not to exceed five (5) years.
