Chapter 12: Brucella Ovis Certification

Section 1. Authority. Pursuant to the authority vested in the Wyoming Livestock Board by virtue of W.S. 11-18-103 (v), Wyoming Statutes 1977, the following rules and regulations are hereby promulgated.
Section 2. Purpose. These rules and regulations are adopted to establish a voluntary brucella ovis certification program for ovine in the State of Wyoming and to assist in preventing the spread of Brucella ovis within the State of Wyoming.
Section 3. Definition. The following definitions are applicable for implementing this certification program.
(a) Individual identification means a metal ear tag with nine alpha numeric characters conforming to the National Uniform Eartagging system, or other identification approved by the Wyoming Livestock board.
(b) ELISA test means the enzyme linked immunoassay test.
(c) Test eligible ram means any ram over nine months of age.
(d) Brucella ovis exposed ram means any test negative or untested test eligible ram which has been in contact with an ELISA positive ram during the last 30 days.
Section 4. Certification Requirements. For the purposes of implementing this certification program, the following requirements shall apply:
(a) The Wyoming Livestock Board will certify a flock Brucella ovis free for one year when all test eligible rams have passed two negative serology tests 45 to 120 days apart.
(b) No Brucella ovis exposed or infected rams may be sold for breeding purposes within the State of Wyoming.
(c) All official tests must be done by a licensed accredited veterinarian. The blood samples must be submitted to an approved laboratory for testing. Individual identification of the rams tested must be recorded and accompany the blood samples to the laboratory.
(d) Renewal of a Brucella ovis certificate will require that all test eligible rams in the herd be annually tested negative.
