Availability of Birth Records to Ensure Confidentiality of Adoption Placement

- (a) This section establishes requirements governing the control of public accessibility to birth records and in order to ensure the confidentiality of adoption placements.
(b) Availability of birth records generally.
- (1) Copies of birth records are available to the public for searching or inspection on or after the 50th anniversary of the date of birth as shown on the record filed with the bureau or the local registration official. Original birth records shall not be made available to the public in the interest of preservation of the records.
- (2) The local registration official, upon receipt of a record of birth based on adoption or paternity must delete or expunge the birth record filed at the time of the event.
