The following words and terms, when used in this chapter, shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.

1. (1) Act--The Texas Pharmacy Act, Chapters 551 - 566 and 568 - 569, Texas Occupations Code, as amended.
2. (2) Board--The Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
3. (3) Pharmacy technician--An individual whose responsibility in a pharmacy is to provide technical services that do not require professional judgment regarding preparing and distributing drugs and who works under the direct supervision of and is responsible to a pharmacist. Pharmacy technician includes registered pharmacy technicians and pharmacy technician trainees.

4. (4) Pharmacy technician trainee--A person who is not registered as a pharmacy technician by the board and is either:

   1. (A) participating in a pharmacy's technician training program; or

   2. (B) currently enrolled in either a:

      1. (i) pharmacy technician training program:

         1. (I) accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists or in application-submitted status for accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists; or
         2. (II) approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board; or
      2. (ii) health science technology education program in a Texas high school that is accredited by the Texas Education Agency.
5. (5) Registered Pharmacy Technician--A pharmacy technician who is registered with the board.
