Architectural plans, specifications, addenda, change orders, and supplementary instructions for all privately owned, new, or altered buildings constructed in the State of Texas shall be prepared under the supervision of an architect, except for the following:
- (1) buildings used primarily for farm, ranch, or agricultural purposes;
- (2) single family or duplex family dwellings of any height or building area;
- (3) multifamily dwellings which do not exceed 16 living units per building, or two stories in height, including basements, lofts, and mezzanines;
- (4) buildings used for other than institutional residential purposes which do not exceed two stories in height, including basements and mezzanines, or 20,000 square feet of gross building area.
