The following words and terms, when used in this subchapter, shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:
- (1) Family Medicine--The medical specialty that provides continuous, comprehensive health care for individuals, families, and communities across all ages.
- (2) General Internal Medicine--Primary care general internal medicine in which the internal medicine physician cares for patients longitudinally, throughout their health journey and provides preventive, acute, and chronic care, most often in the ambulatory setting.
- (3) General Pediatrics--Primary care pediatrics encompasses comprehensive care across the life cycle, from infancy to young adulthood. Health supervision is included, along with a focus on prevention of physical and mental health conditions; anticipatory guidance and promotion of wellness including mental health and monitoring physical, cognitive, and social growth and development; and age-appropriate screening for health promotion and disease prevention.
- (4) Medical School--An eligible medical institution as identified in Texas Education Code, chapter 61.501(1), and the school of osteopathic medicine at the University of the Incarnate Word, as authorized by Texas Education Code, §58.006(d).
- (5) Pediatric Subspecialty--A pediatric medical subspecialty certification offered by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association.
- (6) Preceptor--A skilled and experienced physician who serves as a mentor to medical students in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Request for Application (RFA).
