The following words and terms, when used in this chapter, shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly suggests otherwise.
- (1) Bout--A boxing contest, match, or exhibition.
- (2) Boxer--A boxer or kickboxer, unless otherwise specified, is a person who competes in a boxing contest, exhibition, or match held within the state of Texas that is not exempt from Texas Civil Statutes, Article 8501-1, §7.
- (3) Chief second--The second designated by the contestant as the primary advisor or assistant to the contestant.
- (4) Commission--The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation.
- (5) Contest--A boxing bout, match, or exhibition.
- (6) Deadwood--The numerical difference between tickets printed and tickets used.
- (7) Event--An organized series of individual boxing contests or bouts.
- (8) He--Gender neutral pronoun shall be used to mean he or she.
- (9) Individual--A natural person as distinguished from a partnership, corporation, or association.
- (10) License--A document issued by the commissioner permitting a person to perform at a boxing event.
- (11) Manager--A person to be licensed by the commissioner who, under contract, agreement, or other arrangement with any boxer undertakes to directly or indirectly control or administer the boxing affairs of boxers.
- (12) Matchmaker--A person to be licensed by the commissioner who is not a promoter who brings together professional boxers or procures matches for professional boxers.
- (13) Physician--An individual licensed to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
- (14) Second--A person to be licensed by the commissioner who is present at any boxing event to provide assistance or advice to a boxer during the contest.
- (15) Special added attraction--The appearance of any person or persons in any capacity at any boxing event whose reputation or ability is calculated to increase attendance.
- (16) Timekeeper--A person to be licensed by the commissioner who is the official timer of the length of rounds and the intervals between same.
- (17) Working pass--An entry permit issued by a promoter to individuals employed for the event.
