What are the purposes of this chapter's assistance programs?

- (a) The purpose of the TANF Program is to encourage self-sufficiency by providing temporary cash assistance and work opportunities to needy families with dependent children.
- (b) The purpose of the Food Stamp Program is to encourage improved diets by providing nutrition assistance to low-income individuals or groups.
