In this subchapter:

1. (1) "Health professional" means a person other than a physician who holds a license, certificate, registration, permit, or other form of authorization required by law or a state agency rule that must be obtained by an individual to practice in a health care profession.

2. (2) "Medically underserved community" means a community that:

   1. (A) is located in a county with a population of 50,000 or less;

   2. (B) has been designated under state or federal law as:

      1. (i) a health professional shortage area; or
      2. (ii) a medically underserved area; or
   3. (C) has been designated as a medically underserved community by the department.
