There must be two Assistant Adjutant Generals for the Army, with the rank of brigadier general, who must be assistants to the Adjutant General and must be appointed and commissioned by the Governor upon the recommendation of the Adjutant General at a salary provided by the annual appropriations act. These individuals must be appointed from the active or retired list of the Army National Guard and shall have a minimum of five years' active commissioned service in the South Carolina Army National Guard.
