* § 231. Uniform identification cards for retired police officers. 1. The superintendent, in conjunction with the division of criminal justice services, shall develop and distribute uniform identification cards to all sworn members of New York state police, upon such members' retirement in good standing, which identification cards shall contain all the following information:
- (a) the individual's name;
- (b) a description of the individual as a retired sworn member of the New York state police;
- (c) a digitized photograph of the person that shall be the person's driver's license photograph and shall be obtained from the department of motor vehicles;
- (d) the New York state seal; and
- (e) any other information the superintendent deems appropriate.
- 2. For purposes of this section "retirement in good standing" shall mean that the sworn member of the New York state police retired from his or her employment for reasons other than the avoidance of disciplinary charges.
- 3. The superintendent shall promulgate rules and regulations necessary to obtain the information necessary to issue uniform identification cards, ensure that digitized photographs are recent and establish programs or initiatives to supplement such system for the purpose of improving law enforcement security. The superintendent shall consult and comply with any federal laws, rules, regulations or standards pertaining to the issuance of uniform law enforcement identification cards. * NB Effective January 20, 2015
