1. (1) If the following conditions are present, the licensed direct-entry midwife shall not accept the woman as a client:

   1. (a) chronic medical problems:

      1. (i) cardiac disease (Class II or greater);
      2. (ii) diabetes mellitus requiring medication;
      3. (iii) essential hypertension (greater than 140/90 Hg, not controlled by medication);
      4. (iv) hemoglobinopathies:
      5. (v) renal disease (chronic, diagnosed, not urinary tract infection);
      6. (vi) thrombophlebitis or pulmonary embolism;
      7. (vii) epilepsy currently on medication;
      8. (viii) current severe psychiatric condition requiring medication within a six-month period prior to pregnancy;
      9. (ix) active: tuberculosis, syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis, AIDS, genital herpes at onset of labor;
      10. (x) current drug or alcohol abuse/dependency;
      11. (xi) current malignant disease;
      12. (xii) chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, except for controlled asthma.

   2. (b) current pregnancy related conditions:

      1. (i) pregnancy induced hypertension (preeclamptic or eclamptic symptoms);
      2. (ii) premature labor (before 36 1/2 weeks gestation verified estimated date of delivery by dates and physical exam);
      3. (iii) placental abruption;
      4. (iv) placenta previa at onset of labor;
      5. (v) has a fetus in any presentation other than vertex at onset of labor;
      6. (vi) multiple gestation;
      7. (vii) contracts primary genital herpes in the first trimester;
      8. (viii) Rh sensitization.

   3. (c) previous obstetrical history:

      1. (i) previous Rh sensitization;
      2. (ii) history of inverted uterus.
