For a period of twenty-four months from July 1, 1990, applicants for licensure shall be exempted from the academic requirements of sections 337.600 to 337.639 if the committee is satisfied that the applicant has acceptable educational qualifications, or social work experience, or is currently engaged in the practice of clinical social work. After that time no person shall engage in clinical social work practice for compensation or hold himself or herself out as a licensed clinical social worker unless the person is licensed in accordance with the provisions of sections 337.600 to 337.639.
