1. No person shall be elected or appointed to the office of coroner unless such person:
- (1) Is a citizen of the United States;
- (2) Is over twenty-one years of age;
- (3) Has resided within the state for the whole year immediately preceding such person's election or appointment; and
- (4) Has resided within the county for the six months immediately preceding such person's election or appointment.
2. No person shall file a declaration of candidacy for the office of coroner unless, at the time such person files such declaration of candidacy, such person provides evidence of completion of a certification to do death investigations from:
- (1) An independent, nationally recognized and accredited credentialing organization;
- (2) An entity that provides the training as described in this chapter; or
- (3) Attendance at an annual training as described in this chapter.
