Temporary Closing of a Public Grade Crossing

PURPOSE: This rule prescribes a notice requirement with reference to temporary closures of public crossings during maintenance and reconstruction.

- (1) Whenever a public grade crossing is closed for the purpose of maintaining or reconstructing the crossing surface or track structure, the railroad shall notify the proper road authority and the local law enforcement agency not less than seventytwo (72) hours in advance, except in emergency.
- (2) When closing a grade crossing, the railroad shall conform to the requirements for signing, work protection, and detours outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (2009 Edition including Revisions 1 and 2), which is incorporated by reference and made a part of this rule as published by the Federal Highway Administration, United States Department of Transportation, 400 7th Street SW, Room 3408, Washington, DC 20590, website: https://mutcd.fhwa.dot. gov/pdfs/2009r1r2/mutcd2009r1r2edition.pdf. This rule does not incorporate any subsequent amendments or additions of this manual.
