PURPOSE: This rule prescribes standards for informational, directional, and warning signs used as a result of rules of the Missouri Department of Transportation.

(1) All crossing warning signs, track switch position indicators, and close clearance-warning signs shall—
- (A) Be covered with a retroreflectorized material to show the same shape and color by day or night;
- (B) Use retroreflectorized material that meets or exceeds the minimum levels specified in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (2009 Edition including Revisions 1 and 2), which is incorporated by reference and made a part of this rule as published by the Federal Highway Administration, United States Department of Transportation, 400 7th Street SW, Room 3408, Washington, DC 20590, website: https://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/pdfs/2009r1r2/ mutcd2009r1r2edition.pdf. This rule does not incorporate any subsequent amendments or additions of this manual; and
- (C) Be maintained in a reasonably clean condition and replaced when the signs have been moderately impaired by wear or damage.
- (2) In those cases where the division determines that retroreflectorization will not perform effectively, the division may require the use of appropriate illumination for the signs.
