PURPOSE: The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is authorized to receive a grant award through the Federal Advanced Placement Fee Payment Program and to approve requests for the purpose of defraying the cost of Advanced Placement (AP) exam fees and International Baccalaureate (IB) exam fees for low-income students. This rule establishes the administrative procedures to approve requests for payments to pay a portion of the costs of AP exam fees and IB exam fees for students enrolled in these programs. (1) Federal Advanced Placement (AP) Fee Payment Program.
- (A) For the purpose of payments of AP exam fees through the Federal Advanced Placement Fee Payment Program, eligible students must be enrolled in an approved course, plan to take the appropriate exam and meet the federal definition of “low income” as defined in section 402A(g)(2) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 of family taxable income, not to exceed one hundred fifty percent (150%) of the poverty level.
- (B) Students will be expected to take the AP and/or IB exam on the prescribed dates and in conjunction with the other rules and regulations governing the test administration and must have applied for any other applicable fee reductions.
(2) Applications.
- (A) DESE shall annually solicit applications which shall be due as of a date and in a form established by DESE.
