PURPOSE: This rule defines selection and use of clinical sites by the practical nursing program for required student clinical learning experiences.

1. (1) Clinical sites shall be selected which will provide direct care and observational learning experiences to meet the objectives of the course.

   1. (A) Observational experiences shall provide learning experiences to meet the course objectives and shall not exceed twenty percent (20%) of the total clinical program hours. Orientation to the facility does not contribute to the twenty percent (20%).
   2. (B) Clinical simulation and clinical skills lab time is at the discretion of the nursing program.
   3. (C) Direct patient care experiences shall be sufficient to achieve identified competencies as well as course and program outcomes.
   4. (D) The ratio of faculty to students in the clinical area shall be designed to promote patient safety and to facilitate student learning.
   5. (E) There shall be evidence of clinical orientation for each nursing course with a clinical component.
2. (2) Each program shall have written evidence of an agreement with each clinical site which includes time frames for a notification of termination and periodic review.
