PURPOSE: This rule regulates the installation of liquefied petroleum gas appliances and liquefied petroleum gas piping.

- (1) Standards contained in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Manual No. 54, National Fuel Gas Code, 2024 edition, published by the National Fire Protection Association, 1 Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02269-9101, are incorporated by reference. This rule does not incorporate any subsequent amendments or additions to the referenced material. The balance of this rule sets forth requirements for liquefied petroleum gas (LP gas) applications not covered in the manual. The scope of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Manual No. 54, National Fuel Gas Code, 2024 edition, is to develop fire safety codes, standards, recommended practices, and manuals, as may be considered desirable, covering the installation of piping and appliances using fuel gases such as natural gas, manufactured gas, liquefied petroleum gas, and liquefied petroleum gas-air mixture.
- (2) The repair or welding of LP gas appliance heat exchangers is strictly prohibited.
- (3) All equipment covered by this standard shall be installed and maintained in compliance with the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Appliances designed to use only a specific fuel may not be converted to use a different fuel if the manufacturer has prohibited such conversions.
