PURPOSE: Applicants seeking licenses for positions authorized to carry approved firearms must be certified as qualified to carry those firearms pursuant to requirements as established by the board from time-to-time.
- (1) The board may set forth the types of weapons for which a licensee may be authorized to carry. A list of weapons as approved by the board shall be posted at the Private Officers Licensing Section office. The board shall cause sixty (60) days’ notice to be issued to any licensee of changes in authorized weapons prior to the licensees requalification.
- (2) All applicants seeking licensure for positions for which firearms may be possessed must qualify annually with the firearm(s) on an approved shooting range and pursuant to the passing of a firearms instructor. The board shall set forth the requirements for the approval of firearms qualifications requirements as interpreted by an approved firearms instructor’s qualifications and certifications for the purposes of this chapter.
- (3) An applicant must display the ability to safely and properly handle his/her approved weapon and achieve a score at or above the standards as established by the board from time-to-time.
(4) An applicant who is determined by the range instructor to be unqualified or incapable of handling a weapon shall not be licensed.
- (A) Any applicant who displays an inability to handle a weapon safely and properly will be disqualified from carrying a firearm.
- (B) An applicant who does not attain the minimum scores as established by the board for qualification shall be given two (2) additional opportunities to qualify.
- (5) In addition to applicant successfully passing an approved firearms qualification test, the applicant or his/her employer must satisfy the physical certification requirements for a Class A license as established in 17 CSR 10-2.
- (6) The board is authorized to charge a qualification fee that reflects the costs of providing qualification time and certification for license renewals or applications. This fee may be adjusted by the board from time-totime.
