PURPOSE: This rule establishes and describes procedures each area agency shall follow in hiring a director.

1. (1) The governing body will appoint a search committee for purposes of filling the vacancy. An interim or acting director may be appointed by the board until the time a permanent director is selected.
2. (2) The governing body shall propose a job description and qualifications, and update as necessary. This responsibility may be delegated to the search committee.
3. (3) The governing body shall establish a salary range for the director of the area agency which is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
4. (4) The search committee shall advertise the vacancy in at least one (1) major newspaper with the greatest circulation in the area.
5. (5) The search committee will screen all applications and conduct initial interviews.
6. (6) The search committee will recommend to the full governing body a list of at least the top three (3) finalists based on applications, interviews and reference checks.
7. (7) The governing body shall interview candidates recommended by the search committee and make the final decision.
