PURPOSE: The purpose of this rule is to comply with section 536.023, RSMo (1986) which requires each agency to adopt as a rule a description of its operation and the methods where the public may obtain information or make submissions or requests.
- (1) The Division of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is a unit of the Department of Natural Resources, state of Missouri, and has the function of acquiring and managing land, facilities and resources previously the responsibility of the Missouri State Park Board under Chapter 253, RSMo and others. The addition of the word recreation in the divisional title more clearly defines the increased scope of activities of this division. The activities of the division consist of making the various state-owned facilities accessible to all segments of today’s society including the youth, handicapped, senior citizens and the disadvantaged through a systematic program which will permit the division to acquire, protect, develop and interpret for the inspiration, use and enjoyment of the people of the state a well balanced system of areas of outstanding scenic, recreational and historic significance.
