Subd. 1. Anatomical gift account.

An anatomical gift account is established in the special revenue fund. The account consists of funds donated under sections 168.013, subdivision 22, and 171.06, subdivision 2, and any other money donated, allotted, transferred, or otherwise provided to the account. Money in the account is annually appropriated to the commissioner for (1) grants under subdivision 2, and (2) administrative expenses in implementing the donation and grant program.

Subd. 2. Anatomical gift education grants.

1. (a) The commissioner shall make grants to (1) a Minnesota organ procurement organization that is certified by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; or (2) an entity that is a charitable entity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as defined in section 289A.02, subdivision 7, and is dedicated to advocacy for organ, tissue, and eye donation.
2. (b) From a grant under this section, the recipient shall provide resources and implement programs designed to increase the number of Minnesotans who register to be organ, tissue, and eye donors.
