Unit Processing Operations — Water Treatment.

The person-in-charge shall ensure that:
A. Unless a waiver of filtration and disinfection is granted by the Department in accordance with Health-General Article, §21-336.1(b), Annotated Code of Maryland, and this chapter, finished product water has undergone:
- (1) Ozonation, exposure to ultraviolet light, or an equivalent disinfection process approved by the Department; and
- (2) Filtration or other treatment that is necessary for the water to comply with the standards in Regulation .06 of this chapter;
B. A drinking water treatment:
- (1) Is effective in providing the required or intended result;
- (2) Is controlled;
- (3) Is monitored; and
- (4) Uses chemicals, materials, and methods that do not impart substances to the water in a concentration that is toxic, harmful, or deleterious; and
C. If filtration or disinfection of water is used to treat product water, the filtration or disinfection system is:
- (1) Proven through a review of scientific study to reduce the target microorganisms to an acceptable level;
- (2) Approved by the Department;
- (3) Controlled;
- (4) Monitored; and
- (5) Interlocked with the bottling system so that a failure in the filtration or disinfection system inactivates the bottling system and water is prevented from being bottled.
