Sec. 103. The specific control measures for hantavirus (infectious agent: hantavirus including Sin Nombre virus) are as follows:

1. (1) An investigation by the local health officer shall:

   1. (A) be performed immediately;

   2. (B) include:

      1. (i) case ascertainment; and
      2. (ii) identification of the source of infection; and
   3. (C) identify the source of exposure to rodent feces and urine.
2. Exterminate rodents at suspected site of infection and disinfect environmental surfaces.
3. (2) Standard precautions are required.
4. (3) Concurrent disinfection is not required.
5. (4) Quarantine is not required.
6. (5) Immunization is not available. Protection of contacts is not applicable.
7. (6) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists set the standard clinical and laboratory case definition.
