1. (a) This section applies to a motor vehicle that is purchased for scrap, sale of parts, shredding, compacting, or any other type of dismantling or destruction.

2. (b) An automotive salvage recycler must:

   1. (1) report the purchase of a motor vehicle to the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System not later than seventy-two (72) hours after the motor vehicle is purchased; and
   2. (2) provide to the seller a valid National Motor Vehicle Title Information System report identification number.
