As used in this chapter, "Gold Star family member" means:

1. (1) a biological parent;
2. (2) an adoptive parent;
3. (3) a stepparent;
4. (4) a biological child;
5. (5) an adopted child;
6. (6) a stepchild;
7. (7) a sibling by blood;
8. (8) a sibling by half blood;
9. (9) a sibling by adoption;
10. (10) a stepsibling;
11. (11) a grandparent;
12. (12) a great-grandparent;
13. (13) the spouse; or

14. (14) a biological parent of a child;

    of an individual who has died while serving on active duty, or dies as a result of injuries sustained while serving on active duty, as a member of the armed forces of the United States or the national guard (as defined in IC 10-16-1-13 ).
