Ind. Code § 4-23-7.1-8

Library activity within state; research; purposes

The state library shall conduct research in appropriate areas of library activity and survey and study the library community in Indiana, including all types of libraries in Indiana, on a continual basis for the purpose of:

  1. (1) collecting pertinent statistics and other information;
  2. (2) assessing the condition and capacity of existing library facilities, resources, and services;
  3. (3) defining the needs of society which are the responsibility of libraries to meet;
  4. (4) evaluating library performance in relation to these needs; and
  5. (5) preparing recommendations and plans which will develop and strengthen library service in Indiana.
