A member of a township fire department (as defined in IC 36-8-2.2-3 ) is not subject to residency requirements but must:

1. (1) have adequate means of transportation into the jurisdiction served by the member's township fire department; and
2. (2) maintain telephone service to communicate with the township fire department.
