A town clerk-treasurer shall preserve in the clerk-treasurer's office:

1. (1) all certificates of nomination and declarations of candidacy filed with the town clerk-treasurer under this chapter; and

2. (2) all petitions of nomination filed under IC 3-8-6-10 ;

   for the period required under IC 3-10-1-31 or IC 3-10-1-31.1 after the municipal election for which the nominations were made.
