As used in this chapter, "armed forces of the United States" means the active or reserve components of:

1. (1) the Army;
2. (2) the Navy;
3. (3) the Air Force;
4. (4) the Coast Guard;
5. (5) the Marine Corps; or
6. (6) the Merchant Marine.
