As used in this chapter, "armed forces of the United States" means the active or reserve components of the:

1. (1) United States Army;
2. (2) United States Navy;
3. (3) United States Air Force;
4. (4) United States Coast Guard;
5. (5) United States Marine Corps;
6. (6) United States Space Force; or
7. (7) Merchant Marine.
