Ind. Code § 16-31-13-1

"Operational canine"

As added by P.L.37-2021, SEC.2. Amended by P.L.9-2022, SEC.29.
  1. (a) As used in this chapter, "operational canine" means a dog that:

    1. (1) is owned, used, or requested for use by a law enforcement agency or a federal, state, or local fire or other emergency response agency; and
    2. (2) is used for the principal purposes of aiding in:

      1. (A) the detection of criminal activity;
      2. (B) the enforcement of laws;
      3. (C) the apprehension of offenders;
      4. (D) providing search and rescue services; or
      5. (E) ensuring the public safety and welfare.
  2. (b) The term includes the following:

    1. (1) An arson investigation dog.
    2. (2) A bomb detection dog.
    3. (3) A narcotic detection dog.
    4. (4) A patrol dog.
    5. (5) A military working dog.
    6. (6) A search and rescue dog.
