1. 1. The recorder shall be the county registrar and carry out duties as provided in chapter 144.

2. 2. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

   1. a. Register and maintain certifications of birth as provided in sections 144.13 through 144.18, 144.45, and 144.46.
   2. b. Register and maintain certifications of death as provided in sections 144.26 through 144.35, 144.45, and 144.46.
   3. c. Issue and maintain marriage certificates as provided in sections 144.36, 144.45, and 144.46, and chapter 595.
