Rule 464-16-.02. Basic, In-Service Training and Specialized/Advanced Course Administration
Each person applying for Communications Officer Certification must meet the following requirements: Basic, in-service, and specialized/advanced courses shall be administered by schools certified in accordance with these Rules, except that the Council may, in its discretion, recognize college, junior college, technical school, trade school, or similar institution which is substantially equivalent to that which the Council may establish. The Basic Communications Officer Training Course shall at all times be delivered on the premises of an academy certified in accordance with these Rules or sites specifically approved by Council, and be delivered to the entire class as a single entity except where certain remedial training is required by P.O.S.T. policy. (a) SB505 required by January 1, 2024, the P.O.S.T. Council, in coordination with the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority (GECA), shall establish an amount of continuing education units to be annually completed by communications officers. During a meeting P.O.S.T. Council staff and the GECA agreed on requiring 10 hours of annual in-service training. On or after January 1, 2025, no person shall be certified by the P.O.S.T. Council under this Code section unless such person has satisfactorily completed such training. Cite as Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. R. 464-16-.02
