Rule 40-2-16-.12. Toilet

1. (1) Minimum Number.

   1. (a) There must be at least one (1) flush toilet connected to a public sewer system or to an individual sewage-disposal system, a chemical toilet, an earth pit privy, or other type of privy.

   2. (b) Sewage systems must be:

      1. 1. Constructed, maintained, and operated consistent with specifications outlined in Appendix C of the current edition of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, which is adopted by reference in 40-2-16-.31(7)(a).
      2. 2. Designed specifically to not allow any mixing of animal and human waste.

2. (2) Toilets, Conveniently Located.

   1. (a) A toilet or privy must be conveniently located to the milking barn and the milkhouse.
   2. (b) There must be no evidence of human defecation or urination about the premises.
3. (3) Opening into Processing Areas Prohibited. A privy cannot open directly into the milkhouse.

4. (4) Toilet Room and Fixtures. The toilet room, including all fixtures and facilities, must be:

   1. (a) Kept clean, and
   2. (b) Free of insects and odors.

5. (5) Self-Closing and Screened. Where flush toilets are used:

   1. (a) Doors to toilet rooms must be tight and self-closing, and
   2. (b) All outer openings in toilet rooms must be screened or otherwise protected against the entrance of insects.
6. (6) Earth Pits. Vents of earth pits must be screened.
