Rule 240-18-.01. Hair Designer School Equipment

1. (1) Each school desiring to teach hair design must provide the following minimum equipment:

   1. (a) secured storage for school and student records (locking filing cabinet, desk, etc.);
   2. (b) sufficient instructional displays (dry erase, chalkboard, etc.);
   3. (c) an appropriate disinfection container which is in accordance with Board rules;
   4. (d) a minimum of four (4) shampoo basins for enrollment up to fifteen (15) students, and one (1) additional shampoo basin for each additional fifteen (15) students or fraction thereof;
   5. (e) a minimum of seven (7) hair dryers for enrollment up to fifteen (15) students and one (1) additional dryer for each additional five (5) students;
   6. (f) work stations with mirrors for each individual student;
   7. (g) sufficient closed containers for soiled or disposable towels;
   8. (h) one mannequin per student;
   9. (i) one closed container per station for clean implements only;
   10. (j) one closed towel container to adequately store clean linens;
   11. (k) locker space for personal items must be furnished for each student;
   12. (l) school minimum floor space: 1800 sq. ft.;
   13. (m) audio visual aids;
   14. (n) a current copy of the Laws and Rules of the Georgia state Board of Cosmetology and Barbers; and

   15. (o) A basic kit; the basic kit for hair design students shall contain the following:

       1. 1. mannequin with hair at least 6-7 inches long;
       2. 2. basic combs;
       3. 3. scissors/shears and thinning shears;
       4. 4. razor with guard and disposable blades;
       5. 5. brushes;
       6. 6. rollers;
       7. 7. clips;
       8. 8. protective capes;
       9. 9. disposable neck strips;
       10. 10. perm rods and end papers;
       11. 11. marcel iron/flat iron;
       12. 12. blow dryer;
       13. 13. dusting brush (nylon disinfectable bristles only);
       14. 14. consumable supplies for esthetics;
       15. 15. standard textbook; and
       16. 16. one (1) workbook.
2. (2) All of the above equipment must be standard equipment and maintained in good and safe working condition at all times.
3. (3) Any cosmetology school desiring to teach a separate course in cosmetology, esthetics or nail care technology and having more than fifteen (15) students in a cosmetology, esthetics or nail technology each course must shall provide all necessary equipment and supplies for each such school course.
