(1) GENERAL PROTOCOLS AND DEFINITION. The following procedures shall be instituted to limit the spread of respiratory virus in public schools:
- (a) For the purpose of this rule, “respiratory viruses” are defined as viruses that cause the common cold, including Influenza viruses, coronaviruses, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, rhinovirus, enteroviruses, parainfluenza, human metapneumovirus, and parvovirus B19.
- (b) Schools will encourage routine cleaning of classrooms and high-traffic areas.
- (c) Students will be encouraged to practice routine handwashing throughout the day.
- (d) Students will stay home if they are sick.
- (2) PROTOCOLS FOR RESPIRATORY VIRUSES IN STUDENTS. Students experiencing any symptoms consistent with a respiratory illness or who have received a diagnosis for a respiratory virus shall not be prohibited from attending school, school-sponsored activities, or from being on school property if the student has had no fever for 24 hours and the student’s other symptoms are improving.
- (3) This rule shall be reviewed, and if necessary, repealed, modified, or renewed through the rulemaking process five years from the effective date.
