- (1) The standardized curriculum content for a certified nursing assistant training program shall follow the curriculum framework established by the Department of Education (Rule 6A-6.0571, F.A.C., effective 5/19/15, which is incorporated herein by reference and may be obtained from the Board office or at HYPERLINK "http://www.flrules.org/Gateway/reference.asp?No=Ref-05975" http://www.flrules.org/Gateway/reference.asp?No=Ref-05975), and shall include material that will provide a basic level of both knowledge and demonstrable skills for each student completing the program.
(2) The standardized curriculum shall require a minimum of 80 hours of classroom and 40 hours clinical instruction. The clinical instruction shall include at least 20 hours of long term care clinical instruction in a licensed nursing home.
- (a) For 2021 – 2022 calendar years, the 20 hours of long-term care clinical instruction may be accomplished via clinical simulation.
- (b) Clinical simulation shall consist of activities or events replicating clinical practice using scenarios via two or more of the following: manikins, standardized patients, role playing, skills stations, or computer based critical thinking situations.
- (c) Clinical Simulation shall also include pre-briefing and debriefing didactic education.
- (3) Prior to any direct contact with a resident, a training program shall require that a student receive a minimum of 16 hours of classroom instruction in communication and interpersonal skills; infection control; safety/emergency procedures, including the Heimlich maneuver; promoting residents’ independence; and respecting residents’ rights.
- (4) Clinical experience shall be provided under the direct supervision of the program instructor.
