D.C. Mun. Regs. tit. 24, § 3399
When used in this chapter, the following terms and phrases shall have the meanings ascribed below:
Act - The Fiscal Year 1997 Budget Support Emergency Act of 1996, effective October 18, 1996 (D.C. Act 11-429) or the effective successor temporary or permanent version thereof.
Car-sharing vehicle – any vehicle available to multiple users who are required to join a membership organization in order to reserve and use such a vehicle for which they are charged based on actual use as determined by time and/or mileage.
Commuter bus - A public or private vehicle having a seating capacity of more than eight (8) passengers, exclusive of the driver, used to transport passengers to and from worksites; provided, that this definition shall not include any vehicle owned or operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
Component device - any type of communications equipment which alone, or as part of a communications network is used to record, receive, store, or transmit information or data.
Department - District Department of Transportation
Director - Director of the District Department of Transportation.
Mobile Storage Container - a moveable container that is temporarily placed on the public right-of-way and is used for short-term storage of items, including but not limited to, clothing, equipment, goods, household or office fixtures or furnishings, materials and merchandise.
Occupy - the use of public space, public rights-of-way, or public structures by the installation, construction, reconstruction, excavation, repair, maintenance, or operation of any structures or facilities owned by the Person, (including but not limited to pipes, stand-alone conduits, tunnels, posts, or wires), in, over, under, along, through, on, across, or above the public rights-of-way under the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia Government for any purpose whatsoever.
Person - any person, utility, firm, partnership, association, corporation, company or organization of any kind.
Personalized Paver - An engraved sidewalk treatment that is inscribed with the names or likenesses of individuals.
Public rights-of-way - the public rights-of-way and public space as those terms are defined in the Act.
Reserved on-street car-sharing company – a company with a basic business license to operate in the District that provides access to car-sharing vehicles to the general public for short-term reservations.
Reserved on-street car-sharing program – DDOT’s program authorizing the permitting of public space for the exclusive use of car-sharing vehicles.
Stand-alone conduit - conduit that is not housed inside other conduit.
Tour bus - A public or private vehicle having a seating capacity of more than eight (8) passengers, exclusive of the driver, used for sightseeing and touring purposes, and used to transport passengers principally from one destination to another and back to the original destination.
