INTRODUCTION A. Basis: The general authority for promulgation of rules and regulations by the State Board of Medical Examiners is set for in C.R.S. 12-36-104, whereby, the Board may adopt such rules and regulations as the Board may deem necessary or proper to carry out the provisions and passages of this Article.
B. Purpose: The following rules and regulations have been adopted by the State Board of Medical Examiners to further define unprofessional conduct, specifically the generally accepted standards of medical practice regarding prescribing of stimulant drugs, more generally set forth in C.R.S. 12-36-117(1)(p).
The rule is as follows:
1. Prescription of stimulant drugs (amphetamine or sympathomimetic amine drugs designated as Schedule II controlled substances) is not acceptable for purposes of diet control, increasing work capacity to combat the normal fatigue associated with any endeavor, or to chemically induce euphoria.
