Ala. Code § 32-3-1 (2026)
Establishment; Composition; Terms of Members.

- (a) There is established a committee to be designated the State Safety Coordinating Committee which shall be composed of the Governor as chair, the Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, the Director of the State Department of Transportation, two members of the Senate appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, two members of the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Attorney General, the Administrator of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, the Director of Forensic Science, the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, and a person appointed by the Governor for a term of four years from the state at-large.
- (b) The ex officio members shall serve until the expiration of the terms for which they have been elected or during their tenure in the office to which appointed. The appointed legislative members shall serve for the term for which they have been elected, or if reelected to the Legislature for a succeeding term, until a successor is appointed by the appointing officer during the succeeding term.
- (c) The Governor, Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, Director of Transportation, Attorney General, Administrator of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, Director of Forensic Sciences, and Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court may each designate a person to serve on the committee in his or her place, which person shall serve at the pleasure of the appointing official.
- (d) Any person serving on the committee who is not entitled to per diem allowances and travel expenses as a state employee shall be entitled to the same per diem allowances and travel expenses in the same manner as a state employee.
- (e) The membership of the board shall be inclusive and reflect the racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic diversity of the state, where possible.
