As used in this chapter:
- (1b) “Asynchronous course” means an educational course in which content is created and made available for learners at a later date, and there is no real-time communication between the instructor and the learner. Examples include a recorded webinar without instructor interaction, reading an assigned journal article, viewing a webcast, or listening to an assigned podcast.
- (1e) “Biennium” means a 2-year period beginning December 16 of odd-numbered years.
- (2) “COPE” means the council on optometric practitioner education.
- (3) “Hardship” means serious illness, as determined by a licensed health care provider, or some other personal adversity, as determined by the board.
- (4) “Hour” means a minimum of 50 minutes of lecture.
- (5) “Synchronous virtual course” means an educational course with real time communication between the instructor and the learner, and learners can receive immediate feedback. Examples include interactive webinars in real time, videoconferences, or interactive posters with authors presenting in real time.
