All counterweights shall be fully enclosed at landings or at the path of travel where inadvertent contact can occur.
- (1) At the bottom of a counterweight enclosure, there shall be an inspection opening large enough to allow the inspection of cable fastenings, counterweight and buffer.
- (2) Sectional rectangular shaped counterweights shall be secured by at least two, 12.7 mm (0.5 in.) mild steel bolts with lock nuts.
- (3) Sectional round counterweights shall be fastened with a center bolt at least 19.05 mm (0.75 in.) in diameter and secured with a lock nut.
- (4) All bolt eyes shall be welded closed.
- (5) Cable fastening shall be by babbitted tapered elevator sockets or other acceptable methods. If cable clamps are used, a minimum of three cable clamps shall be provided. U-shaped clamps shall not be acceptable.
