A hoistway shall be equipped with normal upper and lower terminal stopping switches that are activated by the conveyance chassis. These switches shall stop the conveyance at the normal top and bottom terminals of travel.

1. (1) Winding drum machines may use a slack cable switch as a bottom final terminal switch.
2. (2) Normal and final terminal stopping switches shall not control the same switches on the controller unless at least two separate and independent switches are used. At least two of these separate switches shall be closed in order to complete the motor and brake circuits for each direction of travel.
