Wash. Admin. Code § 296-96-24112 – Runway clearances

(1) If the car sides extend less than 1.8288 m (6 ft.) above the floor of the car, there shall be no obstruction along the runway within 609.6 mm (24 in.) of the car sides.

EXCEPTION:

When solid guards are installed on the obstruction in both directions of travel which project at least 14 in. in line with the direction of travel, the running clearance may be reduced to 7 in. The guard shall be arched and the edges rounded to eliminate shear hazard.

(2) Guiding members and moving parts of the inclined private residence elevator shall be kept free of brush and other types of material that might either impede the travel or cause deterioration of the equipment over time.
