1. (1) You must make sure employees working on a roof or other elevated working area four feet (1.2 m) or more above an adjacent safe surface are protected by a perimeter guarding system.

   Reference:

   Requirements for the perimeter guarding system are found in chapter 296-880 WAC, Unified safety standards for fall protection.

2. (2) You must make sure the inboard face of the perimeter guard is:

   1. (a) Not more than six inches (152 mm) inboard of the inside face of a barrier such as the parapet wall or roof edge curb; and
   2. (b) Not more than eighteen inches (457 mm) from the face of the building.

3. (3) You must make sure an elevated track system that is designed to be traversed by carriage-supported equipment and located four feet (1.2 m) or more above an adjacent safe surface is either:

   1. (a) Provided with a walkway and guardrail system; or
   2. (b) Has a working platform that can be lowered, as part of normal operations, to the lower safe surface.
4. (4) You must make sure personnel have a safe way to access and to egress from the lower safe surface.
